Despite, or perhaps because of, some April showers, Spring has sprung at last and I can't resist trotting out into the garden first thing, down to the shed to look at the young plants and the seedlings we are attempting to grow. Though this Easter Monday has brought grey skies, it is warming up .
This time yesterday saw me scrambling into smarter clothes and heading off into Rochechouart to sing with Cantique instead of pulling on the old garden shoes. We had been asked to sing at Easter
Day mass by the president of the twinning committee as they have a delegation from Oettingen in Bavaria.
We were about half the choir in number but still raised the rafters on the local church with its history steeped stones and fabulous twisted spire. We gave them Vivaldi, Bach, and Caccini. The Caccini was a real highlight with flute obbligato wonderfully played by choir member Jane Parry, and accompanied by José Carlosema. We finished with Handel played on the organ by our chef, Colin Cartwright.
The church was packed and the faces of those in the congregation were rapt as we sang. At the end of the mass there was no doubting their appreciation.
Cold in the church? For sure, but we well and truly warmed up our voices and now we are looking forward to the new season of concerts:
- We shall be back in Rochechouart for a joint concert with the Voci chamber choir on June 1st at 19. 30 hrs. (Participation libre.)
- Voci, based in Windsor, will sing in the church at Cussac on May 30th at 17.00 hrs. (Participation libre.)
- Cantique will sing in the collegiale at St Junien on July 7th at 17.00 hrs. (Participation libre.)
- Finally, Cantique will sing in the abbey at Solignac on September 29th at 17.00 hrs. (Participation libre.)
